An X user named GlobalWorld posted a video on Saturday and claimed that the house of Nigeria’s president Bola Tinubu, has been burnt down by angry protesters in Cote D’Ivoire.
In the 44 seconds, many people gathered near a burning house.
The X user posted the video and wrote, “BREAKING NEWS: Ivory Coast set Nigerian President Tinubu old house in Abijan Ablaze.“
In the video, a voice was shouted, “They have set Tinubu’s house on fire in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire “
The post gamered over 95k views and 716 reposts.
While many people who commented agreed that this actually happened, others disagreed.
The video was also shared on TikTok and WhatsApp FactWatch observed.
Since August 1st ,2024, Nigerians have taken to the streets to protest bad governance and hardship in the country.
Verification
The first finding by FactWatch indicated that in this video, the female voice who shouted, seemed like voice outside the original background of the video. It looks like a voice-over doctored in that video.
When checked to see if there’s any credible news organization who reported this, we did not find any media organization that reported that angry protesters razed Tinubu’s house in Cote D’Ivoire.
Citing a comment on the post, a user who claimed he’s currently living in Cote D’Ivoire said the claim is false.
However, when FactWatch subjected the video to forensic analysis, we could not discovered exactly where this video took place.
Conclusion
The claim that Nigeria’s president house was set ablaze by angry protesters in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire is Unproven.
There’s no concrete evidence anywhere which confirmed this to be true.
