An X user, @SabinaNkiru, has claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided the home of the son of a former Kaduna, Bello El Rufai, recently.
In a post, the X user claimed that the discovery was made after the EFCC conducted a surprise raid on the residence of the son of a former governor, Nasir El-Rufai, without prior notification. During the operation, a violent confrontation erupted between EFCC police personnel and the private security team guarding the property.
She also claimed the shootout tragically resulted in the deaths of at least two EFCC officers. This incident underscores the high-stakes nature of the investigation and the resistance faced by the authorities in their efforts to uncover and seize the illicit assets.
@SabinaNkiru attached two photos of the alleged recovered funds from El Rufai’s son’s house.
The post generated over 126k views, more than 200 reposts, and 439 likes, according to X analytics.

First, this Fact Checker cited a publication that reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) dismissed as false claims that it discovered $800 million, ₦700 billion cash, and drugs worth ₦1 trillion at the residence of Bello El-Rufai, the eldest son of the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai.
The anti-graft agency also shared the clarification on its Facebook page.
Also, no credible news organization in Nigeria reported that the EFCC raided the house of Kaduna’s ex-governor son’s house recently.
In a statement by the Bello El Rufai on Wednesday evening, the eldest son of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai, debunked rumors making the rounds that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission raided his Kaduna residence and discovered funds in different currencies stashed in vaults.
Bello El-Dubai, who is the current House of Representative Member Representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency at the National Assembly on Wednesday, described the allegations as not only “false” but also a calculated effort to undermine his credibility and distract his public service.
Further checks by FactWatch indicated the photo attached to this claim by @SabinaNkiru was an image of a raid by EFCC in 2017. According to a report by CNN, Nigeria’s anti-corruption unit discovered $43 million cash in a Lagos apartment.
