An X user @ubasinaxhimbia claimed that 5 Billion in cash and $700 Million in Gold were found in Buhari’s New York residence recently.
In a post on 31 January, the x user alleged that the FBI raids Property as Trump orders clampdown on Nigerian politician’s homes.
“Trump has ordered the money to be placed on hold as he doesn’t trust the current president of 🇳🇬.
The post which has generated over 178k views and more than 1k likes, had many of the X user’s supporters that agreed that this claim was true.
Muhammadu Buhari was the former Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 (8 years) .
Verification
First, a thorough search by FACTWATCH Nigeria indicated that no reputable organization in Nigeria or globally reported that this claim was true.
Further checks by this Fact Checker showed that the claim lacks important details, such as when the incident happened, and a complete statement by either the US government or the Federal Bureau Of Investigation (FBI), as there is no concrete evidence to back this claim.
The last time the former Nigeria leader appeared in the news was when he (Buhari) claimed that he had been feeding from house rent since vacating office.
Buhari revealed that he sustains himself through income generated from renting out one of his two houses in Kaduna.
Recently, Buhari returned to Nigeria after testifying in a case filed against Nigeria by Sunrise Power at the International Chamber of Commerce Court of Arbitration in Paris, France.
Conclusion
