Ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, famous and influential politicians from opposition parties have vowed to wrestle out power from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
These politicians include the ex-govs of Kaduna State, El Rufai, Anambra State, Peter Obi, the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and many others.
Since early 2025, these political heavyweights have been strategizing on how to “ get Nigeria on the right track”. In doing this, they plan to form a coalition.
An X account, Nenadi Usman News has claimed that the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has pulled out of the coalition.
The claim states, “Peter Obi has pulled out of all coalition.
The post which had already generated over 128k views and more than a thousand likes, has kept many X users wondering if this was true.
Verification
A thorough search by FACTWATCH Nigeria showed that at no time did Mr. Peter Obi announce that he had quit the plans from the coalition.
As of 4th June 2025, no credible news organization in Nigeria reported that Mr Obi has pulled out from the coalition. We checked on the official X account of the former Anambra governor and discovered that posts relating to this claim had not been made by him recently.
On 20th May, while speaking to reporters, Peter Obi said his involvement in the coalition of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 election wasn’t about positions but replacing bad governance with a better one.
Obi said this in response to reports that he had agreed to a deal with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to serve as Vice President in the 2027 polls.
However, a few days later, he declared that he would contest the 2027 poll on the platform of the Labour Party.
On May 25, former Vice President Peter Obi met with northern political leaders from across the 19 northern states as coalition talks intensified ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
