There was a time, not long ago when winning was a normal day in the office for Manchester City. The Premier League? A formality. The Champions League? It was tough, but they managed to win one. The domestic cups? Take your pick. You could feel their dominance before the whistle even blew. You never played City to win — you played to survive.
But last season, something cracked. It didn’t happen overnight. It was little slips and then subtle cracks. And suddenly, the team that once dominated England and Europe in the modern-day age looked stuck, glitching under its weight, finishing third without a trophy.
Less than three weeks before a fresh Premier League kick starts, a Facebook page, Prime Sport, has claimed that the Manchester City gaffer is departing the club.
The claim reads, “BREAKING: Pep Guardiola Confirms Departure from Manchester City
“In a shocking revelation, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that he will be leaving the club after his current contract expires. Guardiola cited the need to focus on his well-being and his body as the primary reason for his decision.
“According to reports, Guardiola’s current contract with Manchester City runs until 2025. The Spanish manager has been at the helm of City since 2016 and has led the team to numerous titles, including multiple Premier League and FA Cup trophies.
“Guardiola expressed his desire to take on a new challenge after leaving Manchester City, stating, “I’m going to look for another challenge.” This statement has sparked speculation about his potential future destinations.
“The news is set to send shockwaves through the football world, with fans and pundits alike speculating about the implications for Manchester City and the Premier League as a whole.
The post generated thousands of reactions as people doubted the validity of the news.
Verification
In 2024, Pep Guardiola signed a two-year contract to extend his stay as Manchester City boss.
Guardiola agreed to a deal that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2027. His contract was due to expire at the end of the 2023/2024 season.
The extension means Guardiola will celebrate 10 years at City in the summer of 2026, having arrived from Bayern Munich in 2016.
As of the 30th, 2025, there’s no credible report that he’s planning on stepping down as the City’s coach.
Report disclosed that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City first-team squad returned to training on 28th July ahead of their pre-season schedule early next week.
A few days ago, the Spaniard reiterated that he will take a break from coaching after leaving Manchester City, admitting it could be as long as 15 years.
His contract expires in 2027 and while Guardiola has not specified when he will leave the club, he has once again claimed his sabbatical is “decided.”
Guardiola, who told ESPN in May that he would leave City when his contract ends, told GQ Spain: “I know that after this stage with City I’m going to stop, that’s for sure. It’s decided, more than decided.
Conclusion
This claim is not true as at the moment, Guardiola is still with Manchester City.
