Result on YouTube showed that the video was posted on July 24, 2024. It was unconnected with story of any assassination attempt on Ibrahim Traore.

In May, 2024, Burkina Faso’s military regime, in power since a 2022 coup, said it will extend its rule for five years under an accord adopted during national consultations on Saturday, the talks’ chairman said.

“The duration of the transition is fixed at 60 months from July 2, 2024,” Colonel Moussa Diallo, chairman of the organizing committee of the national dialogue process, said after the talks.

He added that coup leader and acting president Ibrahim Traore could run in any elections at the end of the transition period.

What was supposed to be a two-day national dialogue began earlier Saturday, ostensibly to chart a way back to civilian rule for the West African nation beset by jihadi violence.

A series of claims on the assassination attempt of Burkina Faso leader, have continued to spread despite no concrete evidence since May.

In June, a fact check by Dubawa showed no evidence to support political assassination in Burkina Faso.

In January, the spokesperson for the government of Burkina Faso, denounced Thursday (Jan. 18), what he called an “umpteenth attempt at destabilizing” the Sahelian nation.

He said a coup attempt had been foiled and alleged coup plotters arrested.

Citing findings of preliminary investigations Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo said the coup was scheduled to take place on January 14.

He added that a network of military officers, some retired some active, as well civilians and activists conspired to destabilize the institutions of Burkina Faso.

Many users who commented, believed that this happened.

In another post, African Hub posted a video of tight security around Burkina Faso leader, Ibrahim Traore at a public place.

The X user wrote, “The President of Burkina Faso Ibrahim Traore under tight special forces military security after multiple failed assassination attempts.

The post gamered over 1.4m views, as many persons accused the France government of having hand in the alleged assassination attempt.

FactWatch observed that some YouTube channels some made this claim.

Verification

When key frames from were subjected to Google image reverse search, a YouTube channel named Leader 24 posted the video on July 24, 2024.

The video shared on YouTube in July by Leader 24 generated over 320k views.

Leader 24 captioned the video in French language, “l’armée Burkinabè l’armée malienne l’armée nigérienne l’armée L’AES Monte en puissance #2024“

When we translated the what Leader 24 wrote in French language to English and it’s reads, “the Burkinabè army the Malian army the Nigerien army the army The AES is gaining strength #2024“

Conclusion

African Hub recirculated an old clip to claim heavy security around Burkina Faso leader after alleged assassination attempt.
