Since the former US president, Donald Trump was re-elected to the White House two weeks ago, many videos of him speaking in one matter or the other have flown around.

Mr. Trump defeated the current US Vice President Kamala Harris to become the 47 United States president. He will not assume duty until January 2020, 2024.

Among the videos trending, is a 2-minute clip where Mr Trump was seen asking the present Bola Tinubu-led administration to free the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) Nnamdi Kanu or face sanctions.

In the video, the United States president-elect allegedly gave Nigeria’s leader until November 31 to release Mr Kanu.

An X user, @bssmanchi21 shared and claimed Trump ordered Kanu’s release.

The post generated over 12k and 45 reposts.

Another user on X, @DanielOrjiakor, shared the video and wrote, “I just came across this video that US President-elect @realDonaldTrump has urged the Nigerian Government to release Nnamdi Kanu. Please is this true or not?“

FACTWATCH observed that this video was forwarded to many WhatsApp groups a few days ago.

Verification

When keyframes from the video were cropped and subjected to Google lens, the result showed that it was a video of Trump’s victory speech after being elected US president two weeks ago.

See the original here.

This Fact Checker observed that Trump’s lips while giving that speech, were faster than the sound in the video. This indicated that Mr Trump’s speech in the video was different from the sound.

The sound attached to the video bearing Trump’s voice gave the Nigerian government until November 31, 2024, whereas the 11th month of the year has only 30 days. This showed that the clip was not real

Again, no report anywhere by any credible news organization supported this claim

Verdict

This claim that Trump ordered Kanu’s release is MISLEADING. The original video, which was about his election victory, was altered by miscreants.
