Claim

An X user, @GozieDragon∅∅7, recently posted a video of Nigerian military operatives in physical combat and claimed that the incident occurred when they were in a “War Front”.

The X user wrote: “Nigerian soldiers at the war front, displaying foolishness in public with loaded guns.

“Nigeria is at a crossroads.”

@GozieDragon∅∅7 did not state when the incident occurred but some comments under the post already suggested that the video was recent.

Verification

A check on the video by subjecting some of its screenshots to Google Lens, shows that the incident happened in February 2025 when Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officers had an altercation with police operatives at a checkpoint not on the “war front”, as the X claimed.

A war front and a checkpoint represent two different, yet often overlapping, levels of military control in a conflict zone. While a war front is the primary, broad line of direct, active combat between opposing forces, a checkpoint is a localised, often static, point used to control movement, secure logistics, and project power.

The confrontation erupted at a checkpoint in Jeddo, Delta State, between personnel of the NAF and the police, creating a chaotic scene that drew widespread attention.

Clarifying the cause of the altercation, the  Delta State police spokesperson,  Edafe Bright, said the incident occurred when policemen were transporting a suspect found in possession of substances suspected to be codeine, Indian hemp, and Canadian loud.

However, upon reaching the checkpoint, Air Force personnel, who allegedly knew the suspect, intercepted the police officers and demanded the suspect’s release.

Edafe wrote: “The policemen attached to QRS were on their way with a suspect found in possession of substances suspected to be codeine, Indian hemp, and Canadian loud.

“But Air Force personnel, who happened to know the suspect, intercepted them and insisted that the policemen release him before proceeding. When the officers refused, the Air Force personnel attacked them unprovoked.”

Following the incident, the NAF said the matter has been resolved.

Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, in a statement disclosing the resolution, said, “The Commander of the concerned NAF unit has engaged with the relevant Police authorities in Delta State, to resolve the matter with a view to enhancing inter-agency understanding.”

AVM Akinboyewa maintained that the injured police officers have received the necessary medical attention, while the NAF personnel involved are currently undergoing disciplinary procedures in accordance with military regulations.

Verdict

The X user’s post claiming that Nigerian military operatives were fighting on the “war front” is MISLEADING.
