An aide to president Bola Tinubu, Olusegun Dada posted a photo of Peter Obi traveling by canoe to depict a poor means of water transportation during his time as Anambra governor.

Verdict

This claim is MISLEADING. Evidence shows that the image of Peter Obi in a canoe shared by Tinubu’s aide, was when the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party visited victims of flood at the Umueri Community in Anambra State in October 2022. The image is unrelated to the claim that it was a poor means of water transportation during Obi’s time as governor.

On Sunday, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, faulted former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over comments he made about Nigeria during a recent appearance at Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

According to him, Obi has nothing but poverty to show for his eight-year tenure as the Anambra government and, therefore, lacks the moral authority to criticize President Bola Tinubu’s handling of the Nigerian economy.

The Lagos State governor’s supporters and the Obidients have been in a war of words since Sunday over the comments by Sanwo-Olu.

On the side of Sanwo-Olu, Olusegun Dada, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on social media on Tuesday morning shared two photos of Mr Obi and Sanwo-Olu traveling by canoe and boat, comparing the means of water transportation under the two politicians as governors.

Olusegun posted these images with a caption that reads, “Water transportation in Anambra under Obi

The post garnered over 450 reposts and more than 1.5k likes, according to X analytics.

Verification

The image of Obi in a canoe was subjected to a simple Google Image Reverse Search and results indicated that this was when he visited victims of flood at the Umueri Community in Anambra State in October 2022.

During the visit in 2022, Mr Obi undertook a canoe ride with the community leader to see things in some parts of the affected communities.

Conclusion

The photo shared by President Tinubu’s aide doesn’t depict poor means of water transportation during Peter Obi’s time as Anambra governor, as checks indicated that it was taken in October 2022 before the 2023 general election.
