Introduction

Osun State Governorship election — the toughest and most tense off-cycle election has come and gone, with the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party emerging the winner.

Adeleke polled a total of 511067 votes to emerge victorious in the contest.

The incumbent Osun governor, who contested the poll on the platform of the Accord, defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who won in 11 LG areas of the state.

Claim

An X user, @Nnabuike1stson on Thursday posted (archived here) an image which claims to show the APC governors in an emergency meeting on Sunday night after the party’s defeat in Osun State.

The caption to the image reads:

After they failed to deliver in a free and fair election, the APC governors called an emergency meeting in Osun tonight.

“How will the APC survive the 2027 election after they mobilised heavily but still failed to win Osun? Imagine every governor returning to his own state to fight for his seat—how will they be able to help Tinubu when they themselves are struggling to retain their positions?”

The post has garnered over 2.6k views and a few comments as of Monday morning.

Verification

But FACTWATCH Nigeria pasted the image on Google Lens and the results indicated that the photo was from July when the APC first-term governors held their meeting in Kebbi State.

Punch reported that the APC governors converged on Kebbi State for the Progressive First-Term Governors’ Meeting.

The meeting, held behind closed doors at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, is expected to focus on matters of national importance and issues affecting the ruling APC.

Among the governors in attendance are those of Kaduna, Plateau, Ekiti, Delta, Zamfara, Kano, Jigawa, Ebonyi, Edo, Ondo, Kogi, Sokoto and Benue states, among others.

Also, check this photo here and here.

This primary evidence is an indicator that the photo used to depict the APC governors’ emergency over the outcome of the Osun gubernatorial election is MISLEADING.

Meanwhile, reacting to Governor Adeleke’s victory on Sunday, the APC in Osun State has stated that it is reviewing the results of the 2026 governorship election across the state’s 332 wards.

In a statement, Kola Olabisi, spokesperson for the APC in Osun, said the party is consulting its legal team before deciding on the next step after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the election results.

Verdict

This image was from a different meeting by the APC term governors in July. Therefore, it is MISLEADING.
