Despite Sunday’s broadcast by President Bola Tinubu, Nigerians have refused to end the hardship and bad governance protests.

Infact, in the last three days, the protests have increased to an extent, many people in the north were seen, waving the Russian flag which is termed as a treasonable offence by the military .

In Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina and Kano, looting vandalization of public infrastructure have continued despite curfew imposed on these states.

On Wednesday, what seems like a new speech by the Nigeria’s leader surfaced online.

The two minutes video was posted on the official X account of President Bola Tinubu.

In the video, he begged Nigerians to exercise little patience with his administration.

He said, “Fellow Nigerians, this period may be hard on us and there’s no doubt that it is tough on us but I urge you all to look beyond the present temporary pains and aim at the larger picture. All our good and helpful plans are in the works. More importantly, I know that they will work. Sadly, there was an avoidable lag between subsidy removal and these plans coming fully on line.”

“I plead with you, please, have faith in our ability to deliver and in our concern for your well-being. We will get out of this turbulence and due to the measures we have taken, Nigeria will be better equipped and able to take advantage of the future that awaits her.

“For example, we shall fulfill our promise to make education more affordable to all and provide loans to higher education students who may need them. No Nigerian students will have to abandon higher education system because of lack of money.

“Our commitment is to promote the greatest good for the greatest number of our people. On principle, we shall never falter, I assure you, my fellow countrymen and women, that we are exiting the darkness to enter a new and glorious dawn. Now, I must get back to work in order to make this vision come true.”

The video was shared by Presidency Nigeria official X handle.

Many media organizations in Nigeria reported that this is the second time President Tinubu has addressed the nation amid the ongoing protests and unrest. He previously addressed the nation in a national broadcast on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

However, Bayo Onanuga, aide to President Tinubu clarified that the trending video of the President which came out on Wednesday is not a new video.

“It’s a clip from the broadcast he made last year. President Tinubu has not made any other public statement since his last broadcast on Sunday“, Onanuga wrote.

Many X users have criticized Onanuga for claiming the trending video of the president is an old video.

The questions arise – who posted the video, and who is responsible for managing Tinubu’s Twitter account? This is a concerning and embarrassing situation for the president and their administration.
