The Labour Party chairperson in Rivers State, Hilda Dokubo, Instablog, and many social media pages have published a video of an Oyo lawmaker struggling to move a motion and termed it “trending.”

Verdict

Findings by FACTWATCH Nigeria showed this incident in January 2025. By recycling this video again in April without stating the original date, therefore, this video is MISLEADING.

Criticizing the House of Representatives lawmaker, Adigun Adekunle, for struggling to move a motion during a plenary, Hilda Dokubo, the Labour Party chairperson in Rivers State and a popular actress, wrote, “Can we all give him a big round of applause.🤪👏👏👏👏Kai! Can you all see why they don’t speak? Why do those of us who can speak annoy them? See what a member of the House of Representatives is doing to his people. Let me go and sleep bikonu.

The video shared by Dokubo since Thursday has already garnered over 700k views, more than 600 reposts, and 1k likes, according to X analytics.

Instablog, YabaLeftObline, and many other Facebook and X users distributed this video as recent.

Instablog and YabaLeftObline captioned the video, “Trending video of House of Reps member, Hon. Abass Adigun, struggling to move a motion.

In the video, Hon. Abass Adigun who currently represents Ibadan North-East/South-East federal constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP, was having difficulty correctly moving a motion to revoke a resolution related to one of his earlier motions.

Verification

When keyframes from the video were subjected to a Google Lens search, it was discovered that the incident happened during a plenary session in the House Of Representatives on 14th January 2025.

This Fact Checker confirmed that this incident was true, but recirculating this video again in April 2025 without stating the original date, was a deliberate act to mislead the public

TVC Nigeria, TheNation, and PresidencyNigeria shared this video on 14th/16th January. However, the video began to trend again as a recent incident.

Conclusion

It may be to malign or criticize the Oyo lawmaker, but recycling this video again as recent is MISLEADING.
