Introduction
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is currently a significant force in Nigerian politics, particularly due to its emergence as a platform for a new opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. This coalition reportedly includes prominent figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai
The ADC has become the platform for a new opposition coalition aiming to challenge the current administration in the 2027 elections. Former Senate President David Mark and former Governor Rauf Aregbesola have been nominated as interim national chairman and secretary, respectively, of this coalition.
Notable politicians who have joined the coalition are: Atiku Abubakar, Former Vice President and a perennial presidential candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, and a prominent figure from the All Progressives Congress (APC),
Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State, and many others
Claim
As the search for the coalition’s presidential candidate intensifies, a Facebook page named Newsflash Naija Chronicles has claimed that the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, recently admitted that Peter Obi and his supporters will remove President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The claim reads, “Peter Obi and His Supporters Will Remove Tinubu in 2027” — Ayo Fayose Declares Boldly!
“In a bold and unexpected declaration, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has thrown his support behind the rising Obidient Movement, stating:
“The Peter Obi I know — along with his supporters — will unseat Tinubu in 2027.”
“This statement signals a significant change as more political insiders start to recognize that Obi’s grassroots appeal, integrity, and unwavering support could pose a serious challenge to Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidency.
“The 2027 election will focus on substance rather than structure — and the momentum is shifting quickly.

Verification
First, FACTWATCH Nigeria traced and found a post by Mr Fayose labeling this claim as “FAKE NEWS ”.
The ex-Ekiti governor published a screenshot of this claim on his official X account and denied making such a statement.
We observed that the claim posted by the Facebook page lacked critical details such as the date when Mr Fayose made this statement, the location as well as any video evidence to support the claim.
A thorough check on the post shows that there was a wrong use of grammar in the paragraphs. This made it look very much fabricated.
Verdict

This claim is FALSE
The buildup for the 2027 general elections has intensified with the birth of the ADC coalition. However, the above claim is one among the false stories that came with it.
