Introduction

The opposition parties and their supporters in Nigeria continued to argue that even after 11 years of the reign of the All Progressives Congress (APC), there has been no significant economic success in Nigeria; rather, citizens continue to face unbearable hardship and unending killings.

For this, the APC is labelled as a failure, with opposition politicians positioning themselves to wrest power from the ruling party.

Claim

A video showing some opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives chanting “APC Ole” (APC thieves),  has been trending on the Nigerian social media space.

From Facebook to the X platform, supporters of the opposition parties posted the clip, claiming that it happened recently.

A Facebook user, Tony Chiazor, posted the video alongside a caption that reads, “Tension in House of Reps and opposition reps were seen chanting ‘ APC Ole, APC Ole’ as APC Reps Set to Cancel Electronic Transmission of result .”

An X user, @Uno_009 (Mayor of Calabar), posted (archived here) the same video alongside the same caption as the above Facebook user.

The post by @Uno_009 on X, has generated over 74,000 views and hundreds of reposts and likes.

Verification

FACTWATCH Nigeria typed the keywords “APC Ole” into Google search and found that the video first appeared online in February this year.

The results showed that credible news organisations and pages posted on 17 February.

The clip appeared online here and here during that time.

What happened

Tensions erupted at the National Assembly complex as members of the House of Representatives stormed out of a closed-door session, shouting “Ole APC” (Thieves), openly accusing the party) of betrayal over contentious amendments to the Electoral Act.

The lawmakers earlier moved into a private session to reconcile conflicting provisions passed by both chambers on the Electoral Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Amendment Bill, 2026.

However, proceedings broke down after what sources described as a push by members largely from the APC caucus to revoke the House’s earlier position on real-time electronic transmission of election results under Section 60(3).

In a chat with Daily Sun, some visibly aggrieved lawmakers disclosed that the walkout was triggered by attempts to align the House position with that of the Senate.

According to them, the House had earlier passed a provision mandating real-time transmission of results from polling units.

Lawmakers from different political parties who staged the walkout insisted that altering the real-time transmission clause would undermine transparency and public confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

News websites reported this story here and here.

Verdict

The video of the staged walkout by opposition lawmakers in February, was deliberately recirculated as recent.

Therefore, the claim is MISLEADING.
