An X user named OvertNews posted video of topless women protesting and claimed it happened in Venezuela.

OvertNews claimed the women are protesting over one husband one wife law in the country (monogamy).

The user wrote, “Protest in Venezuela. Different people different problems. The ladies here are protesting that men should be allowed to marry 3 women to reduce number of spinsters

Another X user, Sunil Kumar posted the same video and said Finland ladies are protesting that men should be allowed to marry more than one wife to reduce number of spinsters.

FactWatch observed that many X, TikTok and Telegram account have shared this video and claimed it happened in Venezuela or Finland recently.

Verification

However, when FactWatch subjected key frames from the video to Google image reverse search, we found out that the same photos of the incident was first shared on June 14, 2019 on X.

Andrea Florence posted the same images from the video on X and wrote, “We protest so that we can be free to do whatever we want with our bodies. Feminism is revolutionary! 💜💜💜 #Grevefeministe #grevedesfemmes #grevefeministe2019

We found media reports which confirmed the 2019 Swiss women’s strike, tagged online as Grève des Femmes (French), was against the “culture of sexism in everday life of women” in the country. Their agitations included equal pay for women, recognition of unpaid care work, laws protecting women from physical and sexual harassment, and improved representation of women in governmental.

Another thing we noticed when analysing the video is that the banners held by the protesting women are not written in Finnish. When we extract the phrases using the Pinpoint system (Google), we saw that the banners are written in French.

For example, one of them, and the most visible of all, expresses in French: “Non a l’hypersexualisation: liberons les tetons”, which in translation means “No to hypersexualization: let’s free the nipples.”

Another evidence that proves that this did not happen in Finland or Venezuela is that a location that appears in the background of the video is the Le Plaza cinema , is located in Geneva, Switzerland.
