Claim
An X account, ADC news claimed that Rabiu Kwankwaso is begging to be Peter Obi’s running mate in 2027.
Verdict

This claim is MISLEADING. Kwankwaso recently admitted that he would only consider aligning with a political party ahead of the 2027 general elections if it offers him either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot. However, he did not beg directly to be Obi’s running mate as claimed.

The 2027 general elections are fast approaching in Nigeria, and many politicians and their loyalists are aligning with parties that can guarantee victory for them.
So far, the new coalition platform, African Democratic Congress (ADC), has gained momentum after some political bigwigs joined the party. Those who have defected to the party include the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ex-vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and Rotimi Amaechi, the former Rivers governor and others.
A support platform for the ADC on X claimed that Kwankwaso recently begged Obi to be his vice presidential candidate in the 2027 election.
@ADC News posted a video of Kwankwaso speaking in a local Nigerian language, “will accept VP ticket to Obi.—PhD Kwankwaso begs, the X account wrote, attributing it to him.
Kwankwaso, a former governor and senator in Kano State, is currently the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party.
The post generated hundreds of thousands of views, reactions, as many agree that the claim was true.
Some people who commented on the post, mocked Kwankwaso for “desperately looking for a party for 2027, after refusing to align with Peter Obi in 2023”.
Kwankwaso, in 2023, said it would be difficult for the Northern voters to vote for a presidential candidate from the South-East because they are not comfortable with most of the things happening in the South, especially in the South-East.
Verification
Contrary to the claim, Kwankwaso in a video that trended about a week ago, said he would only consider aligning with a political party ahead of the 2027 general elections if it offers him either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.
Kwankwaso disclosed while speaking at a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his residence in Miller Road, Kano, where he addressed ongoing political realignments ahead of the next general elections.
“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with,” he said. “But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.”
However, in the video, he did not beg to become Peter Obi’s running mate.
